I am excited to be your child’s first grade teacher this year. My name is Nicole Duffin and this is my first year with Oakland Avenue Charter School and I am excited to learn all the wonderful things that make it great.
I have a dual bachelors degree from Brigham Young University in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. I have experience teaching preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. I have three kids: Matthew (11), Wylie (13), and Aiden (16). We just moved here to Florida from Utah. We miss the mountains but are excited for our new adventure here in the land of no snow (and thus no snow shoveling!)! I love to travel (I’ve been to Paris, St. Petersburg, Germany, Austria, and England) and enjoy the outdoors, reading, baking, travel, the color blue, and pizza/movie nights with my family. I love Thai and Mexican food, Culver's Concrete Mixers, dark chocolate, sticky toffee pudding (I discovered this dessert on a trip to England), and Trader Joe’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups. My favorite movies are “While You Were Sleeping,” “Dan in Real Life” and the “Anne of Green Gables” movies. I have a love for children’s picture books (I may have too many) and will share that love with you this year.
I think the best team to help your child is all of us working together. I encourage open communication and parent involvement in the classroom. We will spend a lot of focused time on literacy this year as well as explore many new experiences and knowledge. I love that each one of us is different and unique and has something special to offer. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me.
