2025–2026 Uniform Policy

At OACS, students are expected to follow our dress code to maintain a neat, safe, and distraction-free learning environment.

Shirts

  • Colors: Red, White, or Navy Blue
  • Style: Polo (short or long sleeve)
  • Logos: Brand logos may not exceed 2” × 2” in size (e.g., Nike, Under Armour)

Bottoms

  • Shorts / Skorts / Pants: Navy or Khaki only
  • Styles Not Allowed:
    • Flutter or Carpenter style shorts
    • Stretchy materials worn as pants (leggings OK only under shorts or skorts)
  • Dresses: Must be polo collar style with shorts worn underneath

Oakland Avenue Charter School Uniform Policy

The dress and grooming of Oakland Avenue Charter School students should support a safe and healthy environment, foster a positive and respectful educational atmosphere, and avoid disrupting the learning process. These minimum standards apply to all students unless a specific exemption is approved by the principal.

OAKLAND CHARTER SCHOOL REQUIRES STUDENTS TO WEAR THE APPROPRIATE SCHOOL UNIFORM:

  • Solid Red, White, or Navy polo type shirt with cap sleeve. No logos exceeding 2” x 2” permitted, other than OACS logo.
  • Solid Beige or Navy uniform style skorts, shorts, pants or skirts with shorts worn underneath.
  • Tennis shoes must be worn every day. No other shoes are permitted.
  • Students may wear solid color socks, maximum mid-calf height.
  • Dri-fit is acceptable for shirts or bottoms.

COLD WEATHER CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS:

In cold weather students may wear whatever outerwear they wish to school, however, the only clothing items allowed in the classroom are:

  • PLAIN solid Red, White, or Navy sweater or zip-up sweatshirt jacket.
  • Undershirts must be PLAIN solid Red, White, or Navy. Undershirts (long or short sleeves) can be worn under uniform shirts.
  • Leggings or tights worn under shorts, skorts or skirts must be PLAIN solid Red, White, Navy or Beige.
  • Boots are NOT permitted.

In addition, please note the guidelines below:

  • Platform shoes (including athletic shoes with platforms) are not permitted.
  • No 'heelies', crocs, sandals. No boots or any shoes above the ankle.
  • No open-toe or backless shoes are permitted.
  • Socks MUST be worn at all times.
  • In rainy weather, galoshes may be worn over shoes, but must be removed once on campus.
  • Shirts should be tucked in but can remain un-tucked if it does not extend past the inseam of pants/shorts/skirt.
  • Belts must be worn with uniform shorts or pants (2nd thru 5th grade) when bottoms have belt loops.
  • No jumpers.
  • Non-traditional headbands cannot be worn.
  • No pattern or knee-high socks.
  • Hair must be a natural hair color, including temporary hair color or spray on hair dye.
  • Students not in compliance with the uniform policy will be written up and will receive consequences.

NON-UNIFORM DRESS CODE

On non-uniform days the following dress code will be enforced:

  • Clothes shall be worn as they are designed - suspenders over the shoulders, pants secured at the waist, belts buckled, no underwear as outerwear, no underwear exposed.
  • Clothing with holes, tears or inappropriate patches will not be allowed.
  • Bare midriffs and bare sides should not show even when arms are extended above the head.
  • Clothing normally worn when participating in a school sponsored extracurricular or sports activity may be worn to school when approved by the principal.
  • Clothing that is too tight or revealing is unacceptable.
  • Tennis shoes must be worn. The following are NOT acceptable: Heelies, Crocs, Boots, Thong sandals, Cleated or Backless shoes.

The following items are prohibited at school:

  • Hats, caps, visors, sunglasses or bandanas while on campus during the school, unless student is at P.E..
  • Chains hanging from the neck, belt, pocket or attached to wallet.
  • Jewelry that contains any type of sharp object.
  • Hemlines of shorts and skorts shall be no shorter than mid-thigh.
  • Sleeves of shirts/blouses must follow the four finger wide rule at the shoulders.
  • Hooded, overhead, sweatshirt.
  • Logoed clothing that exceeds 2” x 2”.
  • Non-traditional hair colors or colored extensions.
