Interested in serving on a Town of Oakland Board?

The Town of Oakland has a number of boards which provide assistance to Town of Oakland staff and the Town Commission, and have monthly meetings and require only a few hours of a volunteer’s time. These meetings are all open to the public.

Currently there are two (2) alternate seat vacancies on the Appearance Review Board (ARB) and two (2) alternate seat vacancies on the Planning and Zoning Board (P&Z).

If you are interested in volunteering your time by serving on one of the boards, please fill out the Application Form located on the town’s website at https://oaklandfl.gov/156/Boards-Commissions. Applications can be dropped off at Town Hall at 230 N. Tubb Street, mailed to Town of Oakland, P.O. MetroPlan Orlando is looking for your feedback to better understand the needs of those traveling in Central Florida.  The information they gather through the 2026 Regional Transportation Survey will help in planning and will be shared with both the decisionmakers and the public.

The Town of Oakland Farmers Market is the 2nd and 4th Thursdays in front of the Healthy West Orange Arts & Heritage Center.  

Shop local vendors, participate in fun activities for the whole family and enjoy the West Orange Trail.  The Farmers Market runs from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The Town of Oakland has introduced a new school zone speed enforcement program near Oakland Avenue Charter School to help improve student safety.

Two speed cameras have been installed along Oakland Avenue.  A 30-day warning period begins on August 11, 2025, during which drivers traveling speeds higher than 10 miles per hour over the posted speed limit will receive a warning notice.  Starting September 10, 2025, citations will be issued in compliance with Florida law.  Each citation carries a $100 fine.

This program is designed to encourage drivers to slow down and stay alert in areas where children are present.  Slower speeds save lives.

The program is funded by violators and comes at no cost to taxpayers or the residents of Oakland.  All violations are reviewed and approved by law enforcement before any citation is issued.
